Guen Palmer

I design and make distinctive contemporary jewellery, from my Cotswold studio that is entirely produced by hand using traditional techniques. Inspired by the beauty of the materials I work with, I strive to design affordable pieces of jewellery that have a close relationship with the wearer enjoying the restrictions and challenges that this imposes. I use 18ct gold, silver with 18ct gold and also platinum. Gemstones range from diamonds to subtly coloured rainbow moonstones and tourmalines, set in earrings, rings and necklaces that sometimes include beads and cultured freshwater pearls.

The making process usually starts with gold or silver sheet, which is then cut out and constructed as the design dictates. In much of the work, surface decoration is applied with a steel punch creating a delicate and intricate texture. Each unique piece is invested with care and precision.

A range of jewellery is sold direct from my workshop, by appointment and also from a number of galleries.

I also frequently work to commission and enjoy the collaborative process with the client. Enquiries have included pieces for special occasions such as wedding and partnership celebrations, birthdays and anniversaries or for a variation on a piece of my studio jewellery. IĀ also work on older pieces that need to be redesigned and remodelled so that they no longer languish at the back of a sock drawer.

Winner of the Audrey Blackman Prize 2017.
