Sam Burke

I am inspired by the colours & textures found in the natural world. I love how nature combines unexpected colours, organic shapes & surfaces, & I aim to bring these qualities into my glass art. My art is less about recreating nature & more about capturing the feel & sense of it, often creating pieces that evoke fond memories of times & places.
Every piece represents hours of design, creating & firing in my kiln. I use special glass (sheets, small pieces & powders), & often with metal inclusions, to create a design & then fire it in the kiln to melt it together. Depending on the outcome that I want to achieve, the piece may go back into the kiln for a second & third firing to complete it. Every firing takes on average 20 hours in the kiln.
