Susan Horler

I have enjoyed the creative pleasures of ceramics and glass for a great many years. This dextrous outlet was a perfect foil to my more linear and cerebral experiences from a degree in Biology and a career in IT.
Over the years the two media have jockeyed for pole position in my mind and practise. From slip-casting to glass engraving, hand-building to stained glass, throwing to pate de verre, sculptural ceramics to cast glass, I have soaked up the good practises and pit falls along the way. As my skills improved I have tried to formalise my creative design and making processes through self-study and various courses. I now have the pleasure in focussing on ceramics and glass full-time from my home studio, which is furnished with two electric kilns, a raku kiln and a potter’s wheel. I am a member of two ceramics societies, a glass society and participate in various groups, exhibitions and art trails, including Bucks Arts Weeks and the Henley Arts Trail, and periodically exhibit in local galleries.
Whilst I continue to expand my knowledge of both mediums and enjoy experimenting with new techniques I now have the pleasure of joining the OCG where I hope to be a strong contributing member. In ceramics I have a particular interest in raku and animal sculptures. Whilst with glass I enjoy the challenge of making the fragile Pate de Verre, and more project-oriented core casting.
Here are some images representing my work.
